My RAINNmaker Campaign Info
Nearly five and a half years ago, I was whisked away from my village in Ohio and given the opportunity to partake in the alluring world of modeling and fashion in New York City. I have found the fashion industry to be glamorous and passion-filled. I spend my days having my face painted and being a “canvas” to photographers, stylists, and designers. I am surrounded by artists on a daily basis and most of the time I am delighted by watching the shoot unfold and an artful masterpiece materialize.
Through my experience as a model, two thoughts have stayed close to me heart. It is finally time to share them in an important way.
My first thought is that models are not only art, but artists as well. Day in and day out, models are amongst real visionaries and creative types. Every time we do a photo shoot, see a collection, or chat with a designer, we are provoked to develop our own visions. We travel to cities and exotic locations for work, and find much creative stimulation in that as well. We carry within us a palette of creativity. Backstage I watch models draw in sketchbooks, write in journals, and knit. On set I watch them transform into characters and put on a performance. On the street I see them create their own individualized styles. We are "canvases," but we are holding palettes and we want to use them.
My second thought is that I want to make my limited time in fashion more endurably meaningful. From day one, I’ve believed that I am in fashion for a profound reason greater than the obvious. I think we all are. I find that truth in people like Blake Mycoskie (founder of Toms Shoes and the “one for one” business model), Donna Karan (designer and founder of the philanthropic Urban Zen Foundation), and plenty of others. I feel fortunate to have role models, but I I’ve always wondered how I could help make fashion meaningful to models in particular.
It was from these thoughts that Project Model Tee (PMT) was born. PMT is a non-profit organization that provides a platform for fashion models to benefit charitable causes by showcasing their art and encouraging the development of a meaningful personal message. PMT will provide these opportunities by recruiting models to design t-shirts and by organizing friendship events. All proceeds from t-shirt sales and events will benefit worthwhile charities.
At current, Project Model Tee is working to raise funds for RAINN. For myself and the friends of Project Model Tee, RAINN was our first choice when deciding who to raise money for. RAINN's mission to carry out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice spoke to those who are fundamentally at Project Model Tee. We know the unfortunate truth that this sexual violence affects everyone, whether directly or indirectly. Raising money for an organization that addresses such a pervasive issue is a very powerful start for Project Model Tee. Friends of Project Model Tee are raising their voices for RAINN and their mission. Thank you RAINN!

Project Model Tee for RAINN project statement
Project Model Tee (PMT) will give fashion models the platform to showcase their artistic talents and benefit the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. Models will design an exclusive line of tee shirts, and produce a series of events to launch the merchandise and support survivors.
PMT will host a free Friendship Event on October 25th, 2012 from 7-11pm at Hudson Terrace. Please come and enjoy a drink, the fashionable crowd, a silent auction and original artwork by inspired models all while supporting a great cause. Also hear about RAINN’s efforts to fight sexual violence and help survivors, and learn about PMT’s plans to empower voices and instill hope.
Project Model Tee’s main fundraising initiative will be the production of a tee shirt line designed exclusively by supermodels passionate about fighting sexual violence. We expect the line to be available to the public at our launch party in February, 2013, and then online and in stores.
If you would like to attend PMT’s Friendship Event please email your RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org! And please stay tuned for more information on this project.
